Seoul Increases Digital Service Innovation Through Smart Technology During COVID-19 Era

The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) will invest KRW 321.3 billion into 1,045 digitization projects in 2021 to advance its digital service innovation using smart technology during the COVID-19 era. The SMG will especially invest KRW 126.3 billion into 220 smart city projects.

The SMG鈥檚 digitization projects have been analyzed to create 3,245 jobs according to the Bank of Korea鈥檚 employment inducement coefficient. This is expected to secure jobs for the youth, help ICT SMEs grow, and revitalize the stagnant economy.

Major smart city projects include Free Public Wi-Fi in Seoul, Creation of an IoT City, and the Advancement of the S-Map Platform.

Through the Free Public Wi-Fi in Seoul project, public Wi-Fi will be additionally available at 6,790 locations this year to guarantee citizens the basic rights to communication. The Creation of an IoT City project will prepare a base for data collection and usage in the city in addition to discovering more citizen-oriented services.
